    FAQs

    Is your honey raw/unprocessed/heat treated?

All of our honey is locally sourced and is completely raw
and unprocessed. There’s no heat used at any point during the extraction
process, and if it does crystalise (as all raw honey will), it is gently warmed
to return it to it’s liquid state. The honey is strained as part of the
extraction process to remove any pollen/dirt from the hive/bee parts – however,
you may still find a fine layer of wax on top.

My honey has crystalized – is it no good/how do I fix it?

All natural honey will crystalize at some point. It’s still
perfectly ok to eat – in fact some people prefer ‘crunchy’ honey. Some honeys
will crystalize quicker than others, and putting it in the fridge will speed up
    the process.

To uncrystallize your ‘crunchy’ honey, you can leave the
container out in the sun for a day or so – if it’s a hot day, it may only take
an hour or so to return to it’s liquid state. Or you can partially submerge
your honey container in a bowl of warm (not boiling) water until in
    reliquefies.

If you want to maintain all the goodness of your honey,
DON’T use the microwave to ‘melt’ it – you’ll cook all the benefit out.

Do you only offer collection in Mareeba?

We offer collection from multiple locations. Our main
collection point is 11 Dawson Rd Mareeba, but we can also organise for products
to be available for collection in Atherton, Tolga, Malanda and Cairns by
appointment. We’ll just need a day or 2 warning to ensure the products are
there. We also offer collection from the Yungaburra and Malanda markets –
you’ll need to have your order placed by 12pm on the Friday before.

I’m a raw beginner – if I buy a hive, will you help me get it set up?

Absolutely - we can answer any questions you might have,
help you find the perfect spot to set your hive up, and if needed, come out and
do a quick inspection once they’re settled to make sure everything is tracking
    along well.

    Do you sell bees?

Yes, we do. We sell everything you need to get set up with
your first hive. You can buy either 5 frames of bees (known as a nucleus hive
or nuc), or you can buy 10 frames of bees. Regardless of which option you
choose, you will get a well established colony with a proven queen. The colony
will have several frames of brood, good food stores, and a bit of room to grow.

I’ve never kept bees before - when is a good time to buybees?

Spring and early Summer is always a good time to start –
There’s generally plenty of flowers coming out, and it’s not too wet yet.
